COVID-19 case in local courts axes docket last week

Dockets in all levels of Prince George County courts were axed last week after a county courthouse employee tested positive for novel coronavirus, the first positive case among a member of the county’s workforce.

‘Tree Time’ aims for positive season as COVID-19 impacts operations

Tree Time Adventures and many other amusement and recreation facilities across the Commonwealth were ordered to close their doors to the public by Governor Ralph Northam in late March as part of a sweeping executive order that banned nonessential gatherings of ten or more people, ended the academic year for millions of Virginia students, and closed dining rooms in restaurants across the state.

Family worries about inmate safety, health at Sussex prison

The family of an inmate housed at Waverly’s Sussex I State Prison said they’re concerned for the health and safety of their loved one incarcerated at the state-operated prison following apparent changes to how prisoners are secured in their cells, reduced access to showers, and a seeming lack of guards during the overnight hours at the facility.

County bracing for COVID-19 financial fallout

The county's financial leaders gave supervisors a stark warning about the fiscal impacts of COVID-19 on both their current-year and upcoming budget, confirming they expect to see some decline in some revenue streams, but much like the virus' impact on the overall economy, how steep those declines will be and how long the effects will last can't be predicted with any accuracy at this point.

Dinwiddie supervisors practice social distancing during business meeting

Monday, county officials confirmed the Dinwiddie Board of Supervisors would still meet the following day in their boardroom but, the agenda would be parsed down to only include action items, with departmental and outside agency reports being scraped from Tuesday’s order of business, along with the evening-side public hearing meeting.
